Patricia J. García, MD, MPH, PhD
I am the former Dean of the School of Public Health and Administration (FASPA),
Research Professor at the Research Unit of Epidemiology, STD and HIV and Adjunct
Professor at the School of Sciences at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia
(UPCH); Affiliate Professor of the Department of Global Health, School of Public Health,
University of Washington, and Affiliate Professor of the School of Public Health at Tulane
University. I have also served as Minister of Health of Peru, as Chief of the Peruvian
National Institute of Health, as Chief of comprehensive care of patients with HIV/AIDS
and STDs at the National STD/AIDS Program in Peru, as Vice Dean of Research at UPCH,
as a member of the Senior Technical Advisory Group of the Reproductive Health
Department at the World Health Organization, Geneva (2003-2009), as Chair of the WHO
HPV Expert Advisory Group, as Secretary of Research of the Latin American Association
for the Control of STIs (ALAC), and have been a member of several international
scientific societies. I have demonstrated leadership and commitment to research training
of both health and non-health professionals in global health, biomedical informatics, and
public health. In addition, I have led multiple initiatives related to the implementation of
innovative models, diagnostic tests and systems to improve STIs/HIV and cervical cancer
screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. Also working on how to improve health
systems through the QUEST initiative, including issues of quality and corruption in the
health sector.
