Global Initiative
Against HPV and
Cervical Cancer

GIAHC and partners join the advocacy effort to implement the updated WHO guidelines on cervical cancer screening and treatment.

The recent release of the updated WHO guidelines on cervical cancer screening and treatment represent the beginning of a transition toward a more effective global effort to eliminate this preventable disease by emphasizing HPV testing as the preferred method of screening. GIAHC and partners agree that funders of cervical cancer prevention programs in low-resource settings must begin to communicate when and how their funding policies will prioritize the shift to HPV testing in order to facilitate this important transition at the country level. On these lines of advocacy effort, letters were sent to leadership at PEPFAR, USAID, and the Global Fund acknowledging their guidance in the creation of the new guidelines and calling for clear timelines in which to implement HPV testing in their own funding portfolios. Click here to read the letters.
