Cervical Cancer Elimination
Cervical cancer is caused by a virus called the human papillomavirus, or HPV. It is completely preventable if detected early. Yet, one woman dies every 2 minutes from this disease in this world.
Lack of awareness that cervical cancer is a preventable public health problem is the main causes of high rates of this disease. With proper education, regular screening of the cervix and HPV vaccination, cervical cancer can be prevented.
On November 17, following the close of the 73rd World Health Assembly, the World Health Organization (WHO) marked this historic announcement to officially launch the elimination strategy.
